Former Texas Secretary of State Rolando Pablos Announces Candidacy for 

Mayor of San Antonio, Appoints Campaign Treasurer

Secretary Pablos will file his campaign treasurer appointment 

today at 1:00 pm CST at the Office of City Clerk

San Antonio, TX — August 27, 2024 —Rolando Pablos, a veteran entrepreneur, community leader, and long-time resident of San Antonio, today announced his intention to run for Mayor of San Antonio in the 2025 election. Mr. Louis Barrios, a respected local restaurateur, has been named as the campaign treasurer.


"This is a pivotal moment for our city," said Secretary Pablos. "As San Antonio continues to grow and face significant challenges, it demands bold and visionary leadership. I am entering the race to ensure our city embraces much needed change and seeks a brighter, more prosperous future for every resident. We need to act with urgency to match the competitive pace of other Texas cities vying for quality jobs and investments."


Secretary Pablos has a distinguished record of public service, having served as the 111th Texas Secretary of State, Commissioner of the Public Utility Commission of Texas, and Chairman of the Texas Racing Commission. His tenure in these roles has been marked by significant contributions to strengthening the Texas economy and enhancing trade relations, particularly with Mexico. Moreover, as a senior advisor to Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Mexican and International affairs, he has played a crucial role in advancing Texas’ strategic interests in North America and the global economy.


Aside from his public service, Secretary Pablos has excelled as an attorney, educator, and economic development executive, consistently focusing on innovative opportunities to attract the direct investment needed to boost the community’s standard of living and quality of life.
