NEW YORK, NY--
Tomorrow, Thursday, November 29, 2018, the Committees on Transportation, Sanitation and Solid Waste Management, and Education will meet in Council Chambers to address the crisis that resulted from Winter Storm Avery and the City of New York's lack of preparedness and inter-agency coordination resulting in paralyzing traffic, 1,900 automobile accidents, the closure of the George Washington Bridge, fallen trees, shutdowns of transit hubs, subway and bus delays.
The Committees expect to hear testimony from the Department of Sanitation (DSNY), the Department of Education (DOE), the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), NYPD, union representatives, advocacy groups, and members of the public. More than an internal review needs to be accomplished. Residents of New York City deserve an explanation and public evaluation of the internal disaster that resulted in anywhere between 5-10 hours to commute home.
