Sarah Rutherford, a local artist, has spent the past decade developing her skills as a respected muralist and illustrator. Ms. Rutherford is involved in Wall/Therapy, an art and community intervention project, using public murals as a means to transform the urban landscape, inspire, and build community.
Her mural project at Monroe High School is titled, "We Rise as Tomorrow." This project reflects Ms. Rutherford's collaborative approach to creating and executing statement public art. "We Rise as Tomorrow" illustrates students' journeys of self and creative evolution while featuring elements that give voice to the suggestions made by a diverse team compromised of students, staff, executive and community members.
