WHY:

California's animal shelters are in a crisis with too many animals being abandoned, not being adopted, not being spayed and neutered and many being euthanized. Animal rescue groups are inundated and many are being stretched to their limits, both emotionally and financially.

ACR 86 encourages a multi-pronged approach to the pet overpopulation crisis: it calls for the licensure of out-of-state veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians in the State of California, and funding for spay-and-neuter surgeries, and a public campaign that urges Californians to adopt animals from shelters.

The bill will be voted on in the Senate Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development at 12 PM, Room 2100.
