On Friday, May 17, 2019, 6th-grade students from Schools No. 5 and No. 39 will present business plans to mentors at the University of Rochester’s Simon School of Business. The students have been part of the
Victorious Minds Academy
(VMA) and P.I.E.C.E.S. (Project Based Learning, Innovation, Exploration, Critical Thinking, Equity, and Social Justice) Mentoring Program.
This collaboration was created to bring innovative and explorative project-based learning activities to students in the Rochester City School District’s VMA classes. Students have been working on business plans focused on three learning modules: growth mindset, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Students will be giving presentations on their business plans, they will tour the U of R’s Simon School of Business, engage in a hands-on learning workshop focused on engineering, and have lunch on campus.
A Simon School student started this community outreach initiative last year as a way to enrich the learning experiences for RCSD students.
