THE SHELBY COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSION AND MEMPHIS AREA TRANSIT AUTHORITY (MATA) JOIN FORCES FOR ANOTHER FREE BUS RIDE TO THE POLLS FEBRUARY 23
Memphis, Tenn. - Early Voting is underway for the Presidential Primary Election and County Primary Election. The Shelby County Election Commission and Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) are working together to ensure voters have increased access to cast their ballots.
“This partnership is important for our community, as it provides voters with equitable access to the polls and voter information,” said Linda Phillips, Shelby County Election Commission Administrator of Elections. “MATA has been supportive in sharing voter information and other outreach activities.”
“This partnership is simply a service to our community,” said Bacarra Mauldin, interim CEO of MATA. “We strive to not only transform transit but to support efforts that uplift community voice by providing greater access to all.”

Shelby County Election Commission:
The Shelby County Election Commission (SCEC) is composed of five members, appointed by the Tennessee State Election Commission, for two-year terms in odd-numbered calendar years. They are responsible for conducting all public elections fairly in Shelby County and certifying election results.
Memphis Area Transit Authority:
The Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) is the public transportation provider for the Memphis area. As one of the largest transit operators in the state of Tennessee, MATA transports customers in the City of Memphis and parts of Shelby County on fixed-route buses, paratransit vehicles, and vintage rail trolleys.
