Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County dedicates renovated home in Rumson
|

On January 15, Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County dedicated its first home in Rumson to Patrick and Claudia, along with their four year-old son, Nicholas. The event was attended by dozens of volunteers, community members, and local government officials including Freeholder, Gerry Scharfenberger, Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso, Assemblymen Eric Houghtaling and Mayor Joseph Hemphill of Rumson
.
"We are thrilled to be able to dedicate this home to such a deserving and hardworking family," said Kate Nelson, board president of Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County. "Welcoming a family home and giving them a safe and affordable place to live is such an important part o
f our mission," she added.
The family will relocate from a home they currently share with several of their family members. The renovated Rumson home provides the shelter and security the family needs to grow.
When asked what "home" means to their family, Claudia shared, "For us a home means to live in peace and harmony. We are happy that a home allows us to live honestly and to be able to face the difficulties that present themselves in the best way possible." She added that "for our son Nicholas, home means to have space to play with Charlie [their pet dog] and help mom make banana bread."
Claudia and Patrick were selected as the newest partner families for the affili
ate in August of 2018. The family of three is working to log the req
uired sweat equity hours in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. The famil
y will officially purchase the home with an affordable, low-interest mortgage.
The property was donated by the Borough of Rumson to Habitat for Humanity in 2017. With the help of over
100
volunteers, the property was renovated and rehabilitated for its newest family. The home is the 5
6th home Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County has completed in its service area.
