THE MONKEY FIST: A TRADITION IN RECOVERY
We started decorating our new office spaces with what looks like, to some, just balls of rope. They mean so much more as a strong symbol of the hope found in recovery.
A monkey fist is a mariner’s knot used by ships to help them safely dock. The rope line is thrown from the ship towards shore. The crew on shore catches the knot, secures it to the dock and pulls the ship safely to shore. This deep-rooted symbol represents sobriety (traditionally given after 30 days of sobriety); of being pulled in from the sea of drugs and alcohol to solid ground by the group. The group is the crew that pulls the newcomer safely to shore.
At Rise Recovery we want to be that crew to all San Antonio-area youth, young adults and family members struggling with the effects of drugs and alcohol. Learn more ABOUT US.
Thank you to staff member and amazing photographer, Katina Adcock, for the beautiful picture. Learn more ABOUT KATINA.

LAUGHTER REALLY IS THE BEST MEDICINE
Our staff can get pretty silly, we often share jokes to brighten each others day. Last Friday was #InternationalJokeDay and we posted some staff favorites on Facebook and Instagram, like the one above submitted by staff member, Roy Reina. Laughter is a tool that can be utilized by anyone for their mental and physical well being and specifically, for those in recovery. A common phrase used in recovery is, "Fake it to make it." Just by laughing, you can switch your mindset to positive mode. Laughter can impact your outlook even if you feel the situation is hopeless. So, let's keep laughing.
