in honor of Meher Baba's Birthday 
A unique rural spiritual center in the Ojai hills, Meher Mount sits at the 2,500-foot level atop Sulphur Mountain (overlooking the beautiful Ojai Valley on the north, the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands to southwest, and the Topa Topa Bluffs in Los Padres National Forest to the northeast). Meher Baba sanctified the grounds when he visited Meher Mount on August 2, 1956.

This year our celebration of Beloved Meher Baba's 120th birthday (born February 25, 1894) will include a concert by special guest singer-songwriter Billy Goodrum.
 
Billy Goodrum, composer, recording artist, and multi-instrumentalist, is noted for his soundtracks for independent and Hollywood films (such as There's Something About Mary (1998), to name one of many). A long-time friend of Meherabode, Billy comes to us from the Meher Baba community in Asheville, North Carolina. Billy will share with us his poignant songs in the intimate setting of our meeting hall.

Billy's first performance will be heard on Sunday, February 23. The Sunday afternoon program will include mystical poetry recitations and a diversity of music, including songs by Deborah Ash (just back from India) and by the Still Yet More Chamber Players (a.k.a. Pris & Chris Haffenden). Plus a birthday cake, and more. . . .
 
Beginning at 12:30 pm (i.e., prior to the 1:30 pm program proper), we will enjoy a complimentary gourmet catered lunch buffet.

Jeff Maguire (on harmonica in some of Billy' Goodrum's music), Deborah Ash (singing 7 Names of God and House of the Lord), Tamara Mark (reading a Ghazal by Bhauji), Fred Stankus (singing Manonash Calypso), the Still Yet More Chamber Players (including an Ocean of Love sing-along), and readings by Reza Ebrahimzadeh, Lois Jones, Mahoo Ghorbani . . . and more . . .
 
Billy Goodrum will return to Meherabode for a second set of his music on the night of Tuesday, February 25.

[Note: guest speaker Khaled Al-Faqih's earlier-announced talk will not take place during this year's celebration, but we look forward to hosting him in the future.]

Tuesday's fellowship gathering will begin at 7:00 pm, with the evening program running from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Like Sunday's program, this will include a range of festive elements . . .

The Tuesday night program will again include Billy Goodrun's singing, and will also feature Indian classical music performed by special guest artists Kamaljeet Ahluwalia (playing santoor, which is a distinctive hammered dulcimer with roots in Kashmir & Persia) together with Jas Ahluwalia (playing tabla hand drums), in this talented, locally-based musical couple's Meherabode debut.
 
Food items will be served at 7:00 pm, and a Baba birthday cake will later be shared amid the night's festivities.

These gifted musicians will present the rarely-heard melding of top-notch sitar with the haunting violin d'amore (with sympathetic strings like a sitar).

 

Prior to the concert, at 6:00 p.m., an organic, vegan dinner will be served (at no additional charge). A suggested donation of $15 is requested (for this Saturday evening concert only).

 

Join us for this first concert of the Concerts at Meherabode 2014 season, which is presented as the opening event in our 3-day celebration of Beloved Meher Baba's 120th birthday.
