A Day in the Life at Chicago Tube & Iron - Friday May 13 
Hosted by Professor McNeeley, guests to engage in company tour and reception 
 
 
Founded in 1914, Chicago Tube & Iron (CTI) is one of the largest specialty steel service centers in the United States, with ten branches throughout the Midwest and in Monterrey, Mexico. Inventory and value added processing is facilitated in over 1.2 million square feet of efficient, state-of-the-art facilities. Additionally, CTI houses over 30,000 line items of inventory from the world's premier manufacturers.  
 
On the afternoon of Friday May 13th, President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Donald McNeeley will host current students and alumni as they tour the facility, network with industry professionals and witness the transformation of classroom theory into a practical environment. Guests will hear from the firing-line engineers of CTI's Engineered Products Group. Featured speakers include:
  • Dr. Donald McNeeley, President & CEO
  • Mr. Mark Sowka, V.P. Engineered Products Group
  • Mr. Steve West, General Manager of CTI Fabrication Division
In addition, the event will host several networking guests such as:
Limited space for this event is still available.  A coach bus will be leaving from outside the MEM building at 12:30 PM and returning around 7:30 PM.  Guests are welcome to drive themselves. Students and alumni can register for the event here.

Fall 2016 Part-time Student Deadline is August 1st

The MEM application deadline for part-time students is around the corner. We are looking to continually grow the program with exceptional students with experience that will add interesting perspectives to the MEM student body. Some of our best students come from alumni referrals, so if you know talented colleagues who are looking to take their career to the next level, make sure that they apply by the next deadline August 1, 2016.  

To prepare for the application, have your referral register for the next online information session  on Wednesday, May 18th.  Prospect students can apply by visiting the MEM website . Thank you for your referrals!
MEM Sponsors Women in Engineering Event
Event highlights common workplace obstacles and features a panel of professionals
 
MEM sponsored the Women in Engineering event organized by IEEE Women in Engineering and  Society of Women Engineers- Chicago Regional Section on March 30th.  The event had over 50 attendees who engaged in a networking social and panel discussion. The four panelists included:
  • Kimberly Bors--Senior Vice President Human Resources of Schneider Electric
  • Laura Randle-Smith--Manager of Reliability Programs at ComEd
  • Natalie Hauri--Human Resources Manager of GE Energy Connections
  • Muneer M. Bachh--Executive Vice President of Ambitech.

The panel was moderated by Diane Rink, Manager, Planning & Liaison of Nicor Gas.  MEM looks forward to continue engaging with both IEEE Women in Engineering and SWE in the coming year. 

Are you Connected to MEM on Social Media?
Program seeks to increase engagement throughout social media platforms
 
About a month ago a survey was conducted to measure how engaged current students, prospective students and alumni were with MEM's social media platform. According to the survey results, more than half of the respondents are unaware of the social media platforms used by the MEM Program.  Time to get connected!!!!

Carley Kauble is a senior product manager at  Asurion , a technology company providing protection and support solutions for major wireless carriers, cable providers and retailers. 
 
In her current role she is responsible for driving the product growth strategy for a major wireless carrier.

Job Opportunities
The  Segal Design Institute at Northwestern University  is looking for candidates for two roles, Research Shop Operations Director and Ford Prototyping Lab Operations Director. 

The Segal Operations Director will focus on managing the Segal Prototyping Lab and Student Training and the Research Operations Director will focus on managing both the Research Prototype Space as well as the Research in house Instrument building Job Shop type environment.
