MENALAC Awards 2019
The call has gone out for nominations for the MENALAC Awards for 2019. The 2nd series of awards will be held during the DEAL trade show in Dubai and will take place at the Gala Dinner, which is to be held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, in Dubai on March 26.
Nominations are now open for entry and will cover brands, companies, water parks, FECs, visitor attractions, edutainment centres, sport and adventure-based venues, cinemas, standards and outstanding individuals in the industry.
The nominees will be judged by a panel of industry experts quite independently and their decisions will be collected by independent auditors. Nominations must be in by Sunday, January 20, 2019. Read more

Turki al-Sheikh: From cultural activism to head of Saudi Entertainment Authority
Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz issued a number of royal decrees on Thursday evening, including orders to reshuffle the council of ministers. One such appointment was of former president of Sports Authority, Turki al-Sheikh, who has now been appointed as Chairman of General Entertainment Authority.
Al-Sheikh is known for his cultural activism across the Middle East. He also gained experience in reshaping committees and entire organizations through relaunching sports in the kingdom.
The Saudi General Authority for Entertainment (GEA) was established on May 7, 2016 and aims to nurture entertainment in all its forms, while also seeking to safeguard precious cultural heritage. Read more
UAE's newest safari tourism destination set to open
Tilal Swaihan Camp features a combination of sand dunes and hills with racetracks, heritage village, theatre and souq.
Located about 70km from Al Ain city, this campsite features a combination of sand dunes and hills with state-of-the-art racetracks, mobile food trucks, and dedicated areas for children, state news agency WAM reported. The site also has a heritage village, theatre, souq, a shop dedicated to camping supplies, an exclusive area for traditional and modern games, trailer-equipped yards, extensive parking space and a sandy racecourse for ATV. Oman to set up longest zip-line to boost tourism
Muscat: An ambitious plan to build the longest zip-line in Oman was unveiled as part of efforts to boost the tourism sector, Times of Oman reported.
Oman's Ministry of Tourism announced the planned construction of the zip-line in Al Hamra.
The zip-line will be operated in Misfat Al Abriyeen village, in order to enhance tourist activity in the area.. Read more
KidZania partners with Mum Mum
A new partnership has been formed between KidZania in Emaar’s The Dubai Mall and Mum Mum, the healthy meals supplier to thousands of schoolchildren in the UAE.
Under the new arrangement a Culinary School was held at the mall on December 12 at KidZania. It was attended by Her Excellency Reem Abdel Rahim BinKaram, director of NAMA Women Advancement Establishment, with Nada Ali Al Lawati, founder and chairperson of Seed Group, Donna Rayson, director of Seed Group and Damien Latham, CEO of Emaar Entertainment.
