MERIT IS HOME FOR DINNER AT RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE
For the last year we have been featuring all the amazing sponsorships, donations, and community involvement of our MERIT Members. This inspired us, the ladies at MERIT, to get involved as well! This past Tuesday we made a ‘Home for Dinner’ at the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon.
When a group volunteers at the RMH to make a meal for the Home for Dinner program they must organize the group along with a date, select the meal they want to make, get the ingredients, prepare the meal that afternoon at the RMH, serve and clean up.  Jenna, our office manager, took the lead roll and started planning 2 months ago by finding a date that would work for the entire team. After tossing around a few different ideas we decided to make farmers sausage, perogies, cabbage rolls, and veggies for dinner. For dessert we wanted to keep it simple by having puffed wheat and rice krispy cake.
Once we had everything under control in the kitchen one of the regular volunteers offered to take us on a tour of the building. She showed us a room that is provided to the families, various sitting rooms, the HUGE playroom for children and games room. Each child who gets to go home is given the opportunity select an item from a room that has toys, books and various other things as a happy memory for the time they spent in the hospital or away from home.
It is well known how amazing the facility is but until you walk through the front doors you cannot begin to appreciate the countless regular volunteers and the environment that has been created for families when they are facing one of the hardest moments in their life. All the funding is through donation and fundraising from the community. We all felt honored to have been welcomed to make a meal for the families as well as invited back at any time.
