The Saskatchewan Industrial and Mining Suppliers Association (SIMSA) is doing great things for Saskatchewan with their new Supplier Database.
As the representative of over 190 Saskatchewan-based suppliers to the natural resource sector, it became clear to SIMSA that there was a need to connect local vendors with buyers of their services. The answer… the Sask Supplier Database!
The Sask Supplier Database allows all SIMSA’s members to create a profile which procurement specialists have access to. In their profiles, SIMSA members are able to identify what services or products they provide, as well as company information such as typical project sizes and Indigenous engagement. From there, procurement specialists can search the system to find a short list of Saskatchewan-based companies who provide specific resources. There are 15 large key procurement companies who use the database including the Government of Saskatchewan, BHP, Husky, Mosaic, Nutrien, SaskPower, TransCanada, and SaskEnergy.
The best part of the Sask Supplier Database? It is 100% Saskatchewan-based, as is SIMSA. That means all of their members have at least 3 employees located in the province. Even better, the system also allows procurement specialists to determine the level of a company’s local presence by searching to see if their head office is located in Saskatchewan. This means that when someone searches the database, they know that their suppliers are local and to what extent that they are contributing to the Saskatchewan economy.
Since releasing the database in March 2019, the response has been powerful from both SIMSA members and procurement specialists and the new tool has received many accolades from members and industry.
MERIT is proud to be affiliated with associations like SIMSA that are doing their part to build the Saskatchewan economy!
