Join us in recognizing the incredible work that MERIT member, Kim Sutherland from Alpine Interiors, is doing to change the lives of burn patients through her work with the Saskatchewan Burn Support Network.

As a child, Kim was involved in an accident where she received burns to over 40% of her body. She has chosen to use this experience to inspire and better the lives of other burn patients through the creation of The Saskatchewan Burn Support Network.
What many people may not know is that Saskatchewan does not have a dedicated medical burn unit. This means that burn patients must travel to Edmonton, Calgary, or Winnipeg to receive medical support from professionals specifically trained to treat these complex injuries. The expenses to receive proper medical support quickly add up as burn patients require surgeries throughout their entire lives. Kim herself has required 4 scar revision surgeries in the last 2.5 years and has paid over $25, 000 in out of pocket expenses.
This is why advocacy and fundraising have become a major focus of the Saskatchewan Burn Support Network. Working with firefighters, paramedics, and medical professionals, The Saskatchewan Burn Support Network is taking steps towards ensuring that burn patients get the right care, at the right time, for the best possible outcome.
On May 4 th , the Saskatchewan Burn Support Network will be working with the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics Association to host the FIRE in the Kitchen Cook Off fundraiser for the 3 rd year. The event consists of 5 teams of firefighters from around the province and they prepare an appetizer, entree, and dessert in front of a live audience that is judged by local celebrities. This is a fun, unique event that is focused on raising funds to ensure that burn patients receive the medical resources they deserve. Tickets can be purchased here for $75.00 and you can visit the Facebook page for more details!
MERIT is proud to represent members like Kim Sutherland who go above and beyond to better the lives of others.
