Every once in a while you get to work on a project that is pure fun! That was the case when Allan Construction won the tender for the construction of the skiing/snowboard/tubing portion of Optimist Hill in Saskatoon. They became one of the of contractors that will, over the next year, make the vision of Optimist Park come to life.
Optimist Hill, located in Saskatoon’s Diefenbaker Park, is a man made recreation area that offers a full range of winter and summer activities for children and adults. After several years of fundraising, Optimist Hill became a reality and now helps to market Saskatoon as a winter destination. In February 2019, the community was able to start enjoying the skiing, snowboarding, and tubing facilities.
Allan’s portion of the project included adding 30 feet to the top of an existing hill and extending it to allow for new skiing, snowboarding and tubing runs. It also included the infrastructure for the new conveyor systems and snow hydrants.
Founded in Saskatoon, Allan Construction has always been community-minded. They endeavor to be good corporate citizens, and “giving back” is very much a part of their company culture. Being able to sign on as the contractor for the civil work for Optimist Hill was a natural fit for them. Not only does it match their expertise as civil contractors, but it was also a project that many of their employees were excited about. To further support the project, Allan donated the use of their snow cat for hill maintenance for the winter.
Many MERIT members do great things to support their communities.  We commend Allan Construction for their contribution to making Saskatoon a more fun place to spend the winter.
