PITTSBURGH - DID YOU KNOW?
Remember when we used to type out emoticons
were created? The very first emoticon, the “humbly smile,” was created by Dr. Scott Fuhlman, a professor at the world-renowned Carnegie Mellon University located in Pittsburgh, over 30 years ago on September 19, 1982. To celebrate the anniversary each year, Dr. Fuhlman hands out smiley cookies at the campus. Carnegie Mellon stands among the world's most renowned educational institutions and bears the name of Andrew Carnegie, the founder of what became the world's largest steel producing company by the end of the 19th century.
