Graduations & Promotions! Congratulations to the 2024 Quality Control Technician Apprentices! As part-time students and full-time employees, each completed Technical Instruction and structured on-the-job learning over 2 years culminating in a persuasive capstone project improving a company process. The graduates represented multiple manufacturers across the Georgia Mountains sector. Among the graduates, there were 6 career promotions counted. The apprenticeship is a unique blend of academic rigor and real-world experience. There are a few spaces still available for next cohort of apprenticeships that begins next month.

Transitioning from the Restaurant Industry to Manufacturing

When Chris took on the role of Operations Manager at Satellite Industries in Dahlonega, GA, it marked a significant shift in his career trajectory. With a background rooted in restaurants, Chris had cultivated a skill set that revolved around face-to-face interactions. From serving to managing workflow, his journey had always been about connecting with others, a trait he attributes to his father's outgoing nature. Despite the stark differences between restaurants and manufacturing, Chris found that his skills were an asset in his new environment. As he moved up from Material Handler to Shipping & Receiving, and then to Workflow Manager, his ability to communicate effectively with sales teams and buyers became increasingly valuable. In his current role, Chris strives to support the company and its employees. His story is a testament to the versatility of soft skills and their importance across industries. His seamless transition into manufacturing demonstrates that with the right attitude and a willingness to adapt, it's possible to find success in new and unexpected places.  Statistically, the average weekly wage in Manufacturing is more than double that of those employed in Accommodations and Food Services in Georgia Mountains Works Region 2.
