Autumn: a picturesque season
There’s something very special in the air this time of the year. A crisp autumn breeze, crackling log fires and bristling leaves, floating delicately towards the ground, inspire many people to celebrate this picturesque season.

From the traditional celebration of the Harvest Festival, to the thrill and excitement of Bonfire Night, to the excitement of costumes and trick or treating on Halloween, autumn is the perfect time of year for celebration.

As you meet new families, and reconnect with friends after the summer break, fall can be such a fun time of year.

Happy Autumn!

Happy Canada Day 2018 from sunny Albuquerque, New Mexico!

Since we are the only Canadian military family in town we felt it was our duty to demonstrate some Canadian hospitality in honor of the big day. We put the big flag out front, decorated the house and the back yard in red and white, put the drinks on ice, and invited over twenty-five friends and neighbors to share the day with us.

There were ball hockey competitions for the kids (and adventurous adults), poster boards filled with Canadian trivia, Canadian music on the playlist, and burgers flaming on the grill. Laughter, good food, and bubbles made the day complete.
Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re already planning ways to make next year bigger and better!

Sponsored by MFSUS
On 25 August 2018, the Canadian Space Detachment at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California hosted a welcome BBQ. The event was sponsored by MFSUS and organized by a small group of enthusiastic volunteers who contributed in making the day a great success.
Thank you to the Vandenberg Team for putting this event together and to the volunteers who helped with set up, tear down and photography to capture great memories of this successful day. Your sense of community is a positive example for all.
Well done Vandenberg!

Healthy Living
'Keeping your bones strong through exercise'
by: Helen Vanderburg
Todd Cirka PSP OUTCAN Physical Fitness Coordinator
Bone health is as important as heart health, however it's not as frequently discussed. Your bones create a frame for the body and serve as a bank for minerals which are essential for bodily function. A strong skeleton provides structure, protects organs, and anchors muscles and tendons to enable the body to move with power and grace.

Online Mental Health Support
Family Information Line is offering online support via video how is it different?
Just like calling or emailing, the Virtual Counsellor will provide information, referral and  emotional support  to military families. While access to FIL is available 24/7 via phone and email, virtual counselling is scheduled between the hours of 7:00 a.m.to 11:00 p.m. ET. This allows families to book several sessions at specific times and to request the same counsellor for these sessions. Virtual counselling can be accessed by phone or video.

How do I book an FIL session via video?
Connect with the Family Information Line by phone at 1-800-866-4546 or by email at  FIL@CAFConnection.ca  and request to speak with a Virtual Counsellor. The Virtual Counsellor will book a session or multiple sessions for you.
