President's Message
A New Start for a New Year
|
Dear Missouri Fox Trotter Enthusiast:
While many of us are still shaking our heads over how fast the "old year" passed, let me wish you a 2013 full of prosperity, happiness, and plenty of time to enjoy your Missouri Fox Trotter(s).
Your volunteer MFTHBA Board and Committees have been very busy planning the year's activities, while taking on suggestions and ideas making our organization a responsive and viable one for its members and the promotion of our beloved breed, the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse. The fact that we now reach across the globe proves what we have known all along: that the Missouri Fox Trotting Breed Horse is a pleasure to ride and to own.
Have you renewed your membership yet? If you haven't, there is still time. However, the pot has been sweetened with a membership contest held on behalf of the Association and Affiliates. See the story below.
How many of you like to talk forever about your registered Missouri Fox Trotter? You will have plenty of opportunities coming your way at area expos and gatherings. Several dates are listed below. Volunteer, and also attend to support your fellow members and enthusiasts.
Review this month's MFTHBA Newsletter and you will find several things that may interest and surprise you. We are all here because of the horses we love.
Let's make 2013 one that shows our MFTs how much we think of their many endearing qualities.
See you at the barn, the rail or the trail,
Joyce Graening

Affiliate Membership Contest Offers Attractive Incentives |
The MFTHBA Membership Committee is proud to announce the 2013 Affiliate Membership Contest. This contest will run from January to the Three Year Old Futurity in June where the winning affiliate will be announced on Saturday night of the Futurity.
What is your goal?
- Add as many new members or renewal of memberships to the MFTHBA as possible by the Three Year Old Futurity.
How will the winning affiliate be determined?
- Affiliate names should be printed neatly on the top of each membership form submitted to the MFTHBA between now and June.
- Total points will be added up during the Three Year Old Futurity
- Memberships will be counted as follows:
- Yearly membership=1 point
- Three year membership or youth membership=3 points
- Lifetime membership=5 points
What will the winning affiliate receive?
- $500 to be used towards a club promotional activity
- Possible promotional activities:
- Bringing in a clinician for your group who specializes or is knowledgeable about Fox Trotters
- An overnight trail ride for your club
- Class sponsorship(s) at a club sponsored horse show
- Year-end awards for your club
- Any club sponsored event that promotes fox trotters or is educational in nature about fox trotters
How do you accomplish this? Possible ideas include:
- Encourage current affiliate members who are not current members of the MFTHBA to join.
- Encourage new affiliate members to also join the MFTHBA.
- Provide MFTHBA membership forms at club seminars, spring shows, in club newsletters, club websites, etc.
- Encourage existing MFTHBA members to renew their memberships.
- Include affiliate information on the email membership drive that was recently sent out.
We hope that we can work together to grow the MFTHBA this year, which in turn will allow the MFTHBA to put in place programs that will help the MFTHBA to better serve the affiliates. Need to find which affiliate serves your area? (Click here.) Ready to renew? Click here for the emailed Constant Contact Form. Click here for the hard copy to print, complete, and mail in with a check.

Interest Is Just a Click Away...
Reach Hundreds of Missouri Fox Trotter-Focused Enthusiasts
|
Association email publications "MFTHBA Newsletter" and "FoxTrot University" launched in the fall of 2010. We are happy to report our subscriber numbers continue to grow steadily. (See statistics in attached below.)
After careful consideration, the MFTHBA Promotions Committee approved the addition of banner ads within the electronic newsletters (e-letters). Beginning this month, a limited amount of advertising in the MFTHBA Newsletter and FoxTrot University will be considered.
With the intention of keeping the e-letters easy to read and download, no more than two ads per newsletter will be sold. The Committee also wanted to make sure prices were reasonable, especially for MFTHBA members. In comparison to other electronic newsletters, advertisers will find them quite reasonable.
Why advertise in one of the MFTHBA e-letters? You are assured your message will land directly in the mailbox of a subscribed reader. That's right. All of our readers have requested to have this information delivered to their inbox. Studies show that reader requested information has a higher percentage of actually being opened and reviewed.
For your consideration:
- Banner ads will be 500X75 pixels;
- Ads may be linked to the advertiser's website;
- For MFTHBA members promoting their farm, fox trotters for sale, training, direct MFT-related goods or services; and for affiliates promoting affiliate events-$40 per ad;
- For all other advertisers, or types of advertising-$75 per ad;
- Advertisers seeking concentrated exposure may invest in a six-ad package for 2013;
-20 percent off the regular price;
-Four ad placements in MFTHBA News;
-Two in FoxTrot University;
-Advertiser may select display months based on availability.
-Note: to receive discount, all ads must be paid in full prior to initial ad placement.
Banner ad design is the responsibility of the advertiser. If an ad needs to be designed, we can facilitate the development for an additional cost. Typically, banner ad design is fairly inexpensive.
Note: All banner ads will be subject to the approval of the MFTHBA Promotions Committee.
MFTHBA Newsletter delivers directly to approximately 1000 email inboxes in addition to being shared with more than 1725 MFTHBA Facebook followers and through the MFTHBA Twitter account. It is a general information at-a-glance publication with an occasional feature on MFTs and their owners.
FoxTrot University reaches directly to 700 e-mail addresses in addition to being shared with more than 1725 MFTHBA Facebook followers and through the MFTHBA Twitter account. It is designed for the serious owner, a person interested in expanding their knowledge about the care, nutrition, training, showing, and enjoyment of the breed.
Both newsletters enjoy an open rate higher than industry average as well as a significant click through rate ("Click through" means the reader clicks the blue "hot link" following it to another story, more information, or web site.) Here are interesting statistics:

Notes and Corrections from Your Newsletter Editor:
|
We always appreciate readers who notify us of any inaccuracies in our publications. Thank you so very much for taking the time to contact the MFTHBA Office or send your thoughts to newsletter@mfthba.com.
Please review the following corrections from December 2012's MFTHBA Newsletter. - The Region 7 Directorship post was incorrect. Albert Cook was appointed to replace Gordon Thompson as Director for Region 7.
- In addition, the horse selected for the 2012 Caparison Ceremony is Whirlwind's Black Smoke.
We apologize for these errors, sincerely hope they have caused no inconvenience to those involved, and appreciate our readers' patience and understanding. In closing, a heartfelt thanks to all the MFTHBA Staff, Committee Members, and Volunteers who have been so generous with their time when asked to provide and verify information, offer suggestions, and consider improvements for our publications. Your efforts make telling the Missouri Fox Trotter story a pleasure.
