River Valley Community Grains works with farmers in New Jersey to grow a variety of grains using regenerative agricultural methods. RVCG has helped to put into place some of the pieces critical to grain infrastructure, such as storage, cleaning equipment, stone-mills and an oat rolling machine. We have also established direct-to-consumer relationships at various farmers’ markets in New Jersey and have cultivated wholesale relationships with bakers and local merchants who incorporate the flour and oats in their end products, such as granola and crackers. RVCG is very excited to join and be a part of the Maine Grain Alliance. We have been inspired from our work in NJ by the efforts of the Maine Grain Alliance in Maine and elsewhere in the Northeast. Upon learning of the grain renaissance in the Northeast in Amy Halloran’s, The New Bread Basket, we wanted to jumpstart a grains-based business that focuses on restoring the soils and strengthens the local food supply while also bringing back nutrient-dense flours and breads to NJ.
