VISION STATEMENT  

The Montana Grain Elevator Association will be recognized and respected as the network that provides valuable support and resources for the Montana Grain Industry.


MISSION STATEMENT

MGEA will provide a forum for all facets of the Montana grain industry to 1) discuss common issues and, when appropriate, take action, 2) network, 3) be respected as a resource for members and others about the grain industry, and 4) be respected as the voice of grain industry in Montana.    

Safety Topic - Rail Safety Expectations

Rail Safety Expectations

·      At least two employees must be present for all rail movements

·      All employees must wear safety glasses, high visibility clothing, gloves and boots. 

·      Always maintain three points of contact when climbing or working on ladders.

·      Fall protection is required whenever on top of a railcar

·      When the car is attached to power, opening/closing and/or sealing car bottoms can only be done if Red Zone Protection is utilized.

·      Cell phones should only be used for emergency calls only. Employees should minimize distractions by not wearing ear buds, using cell phones, etc.

·      Never cross under equipment or over moving equipment

·      Do not move railcars without visual line of sight to the leading car of the movement

·      Do not leave unattended derails unlocked and in the non-derailing position.

·      Positive confirmation of a command is required prior to moving, except when making momentary stops and start movement
