Engage with the IHP Community

Greetings from the Office of Alumni Relations! Leadership in the health professions isn’t just about roles or positions — it’s about influence, advocacy, and mentorship. Today, I invite you to consider the following questions: How do you define leadership? What opportunities do you see to lead within your practice, organization, or community, regardless of title? How can you, as alumni, model leadership for the next generation of health professionals? Then, as you reflect on your answers, what are you learning about yourself when it comes to leadership?

This newsletter is filled with information on what's happening within the IHP community. I hope that you will engage with us! As always, feel free to reach out with your thoughts and ideas.

~Katie Mulcahy, Director of Alumni Relations

Join Us for MGH IHP Giving Day

Wednesday, October 15, 2025

On October 15, 1978, a generous donor made a gift to establish the MGH Institute’s first endowed scholarship. This donor recognized and stressed the importance of interprofessional education, and of preparing health professionals to be leaders in their respective fields. This fall, on the milestone moment’s anniversary, we are honoring this legacy and continuing this tradition of student support by hosting Giving Day 2025. Proceeds from Giving Day 2025 provide vital scholarship support.

Because this day is so important, many IHP leaders have offered to match all gifts up to $150,000 if we reach 300 donors for this Giving Day. Early gifts are welcome and count toward this challenge! By joining our community of donors in making an early gift, you are inspiring others.

This conversation will explore alumni experiences navigating barriers and successes in their respective professions. We will discuss how Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health have influenced their practice, as well as how providers can partner with communities to foster trust, cultural consciousness, amplify voices, and ensure care is responsive to cultural and community needs. Panelists will also reflect on any challenges they’ve faced, what programs can do to foster supportive learning environments, and where they see their field advancing to better serve all communities.

Seeking Children ~ 3 time slots available ~ Virtual

Child Development Day, aka "Baby Day," is just around the corner. You may remember this day from when you were a student! Now is your chance to have your child or children participate in this annual event, which is now virtual. If you have a child between the ages of 6 months and 3 years 11 months (birthdays 11/24/2021 - 4/24/2025) and have time on the morning of October 24, 2025, please consider registering today for one of the 45-minute sessions.

Child Development Day is an annual opportunity for health professions students to learn about child development across domains as they conduct a developmental assessment through a telehealth platform. This will include speaking with caregivers, observing milestones, and learning how to analyze the information.

Led by IHP faculty with expertise in pediatrics, interprofessional teams of students from physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, audiology, genetic counseling, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner programs will guide caregivers and children through a series of age-appropriate play activities, highlighting gross and fine motor skills, movement, social interaction, communication, and cognition.
