MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Manitoba Golf Superintendents Association (MGSA) announced their 2021 Superintendent of the Year; Mark Kerkowich of Neepawa Golf and Country Club during their Annual General Meeting on March 8th.
Mark started his career at Clear Lake Golf Course, before receiving his Turfgrass Management Diploma from Red River College in 2016. That same year he took over as Superintendent at Neepawa Golf and Country Club where he remains. During his time at Neepawa he has consistently provided members and guests with excellent playing conditions while also being active in promoting the turfgrass maintenance industry and the game of golf.
In 2020 Neepawa was hit with a flood when the Whitemud River overflowed after heavy rains. Half the course was flooded, leaving a six inch layer of silt and sludge after receding. Despite Mother Nature throwing everything at Mark and the crew, the course was able to re-open the flooded portion after an intensive repair job, a mere five weeks later.
The following year Neepawa hosted the Men's Amateur Championship with favourable course conditions. Not only did Mark provide outstanding tournament conditions, he also played in the tournament.
"His dedication and commitment to his craft is unwavering, which makes him a clear choice for the MGSA Superintendent of the Year," said Jordan Joye, MGSA Board Member.
This award is given to a Superintendent member of the Manitoba Golf Superintendents Association who is in good standing, has brought about the awareness of the profession and brings a positive influence on the industry in the province of Manitoba.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to select Mark as recipient of this award. He has shown commitment to the industry and the game of golf in the province. Congratulations Mark,” said Dustin How, AGS, MGSA President.
