Presidents Message -

Jordan Joye

Dear Members,

As we move into the heart of the golf season, I find I am having to constantly revert back to one theme; patience. This spring has challenged all of us in different ways. It seemed Manitoba skipped spring altogether, transitioning from cold temperatures and delayed growth straight into scorching heat in what felt like a matter of days. The lack of a gradual transition period left little opportunity for turf, golf courses, and the people who care for them to adapt at the pace we would normally expect.

MGSA May Meeting Report

The Manitoba Golf Superintendents Association had a very successful first meeting on May 27th in Lorette. Over 20 people attended and took part in a roundtable discussion, with topics including irrigation, spring maintenance, disease control and cultural practices with the abnormal spring. The roundtable discussion was followed by a 9 hole round of alternate shot golf. The course was in fantastic condition with Mario Gagnon and Evan Zacharias taking home first place and winning free entry to the September Meeting.

Big thank you to the Host Superintendent, Ian Martinusen.

We look forward to seeing you all at the John B. Steel event at Clear Lake Golf Course on June 24th. Make sure to sign up quick as the event has limited capacity!
