MHA AZ Out and About in the Community

We participated in the Speak Up, Stand Up, Save Life Conference as an adult facilitator for a youth breakout workshop at Grand Canyon University. Young people navigated the most common issues they face, ways adults create or remove barriers to seeking help, and made personal commitments to speak up and stand up within their schools and peer circles. MHA AZ attended the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's First Rally to Prevent Suicide in Arizona in February. It was a fantastic turn out thanks to the hard work of the AFSP-Arizona Chapter team and the passion of the community! Interested in getting involved? It was an honor to co-present with Beth Brady, LAC from the Crisis Response Network and our newest MHA AZ Board of Director! This Mental Health in the Workplace Training at the Hays Companies HR Conference focused on fostering a healthy work environment, identifying the warning signs of suicide, and providing workplace accommodations and assistance. Governor Ducey signed SB1523, Jake's Law, into law on March 3, 2020!
Governor Ducey signed SB1523, Jake's Law , into law on March 3, 2020! Members of the legislature voted unanimously in both chambers to pass SB1523. This would not have been possible without the dedication, expertise, and support of The JEM Foundation, Arizona legislators, behavioral health providers, and multiple community partners!

MHA AZ greatly appreciates the sponsorship and hard work of Senator Brophy McGee and Representative Weninger in getting this bill passed. Thank you to Governor Ducey and the Governors office for making behavioral health parity and access to services a priority in Arizona!

We feel honored to have had the opportunity to participate on the Arizona Council for Insurance Parity under the initial leadership of MHA AZ's former Executive Director, Kristina Sabetta, LCSW. As our Associate Director Erin Callinan, MSW stepped onto the committee in July, we continued to learn and grow from the experience brought forth by Representative Epstein, The Arizona Council for Human Service Providers, Ben and Denise Denslow of The JEM Foundation, Carly Fleege, MIKID, The Arizona Psychiatric Society, AFSP, The Kennedy Forum, Peers and Families, and many others.
