Juneteenth Annual Exhibition

Celebrating “Freedom Day” 2025: A Virtual Juneteenth Exhibition with NHD Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Historical Society began an annual NHD Massachusetts Juneteenth exhibition in 2020 with three goals: to promote an understanding of and engagement with the Juneteenth holiday; to highlight select NHD student projects whose work explores topics related to African American history, culture, achievement, and freedom; and to spread awareness of these often-marginalized historical narratives.

This year's NHD projects will approach history through the theme of "Rights and Responsibilities."

Stay tuned for the launch of this year's virtual display of original and extraordinary student work from the 2025 NHD Massachusetts competition season, which will be released in June.

NHD State Funding Update

Senator Paul Feeney, who has long championed NHD, has advocated for $100K funding for NHD in the Fair Share Supplemental Budget, which passed on Thursday, 5/8. The bill is now off to conference committee, and if included in the final conference report, it will be sent to the Governor’s desk for her signature.

As further developments are made in the status of funding for the Massachusetts NHD , we will provide updates.

Senator Paul Feeney

Thank you to Senator Feeney and everyone who helped demonstrate to legislators that NHD is a vital program for Massachusetts.
