MarathonAnnual MI Half Marathon: March 22
Click for more information
The annual Mercer Island Half Marathon, organized by the Rotary Club hits the streets and trails of Mercer Island on Sunday, March 22, 2020. This will result in temporary road closures and some traffic delays. Five different run or walk events benefiting colon cancer prevention will take place throughout the morning.

Mercer Island Police, Rotary course marshals, and volunteers will provide traffic control throughout the day. Signs will clearly denote detours and areas of temporary traffic delays. Bicyclists and drivers are asked to comply with requests made by race officials. If you must use East, West, or North Mercer Way, please travel in a counterclockwise direction to minimize delays. Residents are advised to use Island Crest Way for North/South travel, if at all possible.

Events begin at 7:30am and end at approximately Noon; click here for more schedule information.

Throughout 2020, the Parks and Recreation Department will be updating its citywide  Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan (PROS Plan), seeking input to determine how to prioritize projects that will keep parks and programs thriving. A community-wide online survey is currently underway but closes soon on March 9; please submit your comments today!

Park users can stay informed about the PROS Plan process via an updated Let's Talk page: subscribe to project updates, ask questions, engage with other community members, and find the schedule for community events.
SewerCity Adds Vactor/Jetter Truck to Fleet
Click to learn more about the Sewer Utility
Have you met the newest member of the City's heavy equipment fleet? This combination Vactor/Jetter Truck went into service six weeks ago in the Sewer Utility Division and is used for a wide variety of maintenance tasks that used to be contracted out.

This high-tech tool will save the City money and tackles the under-appreciated task of cleaning out sewer mains. In combination with closed-circuit TV cameras, it can identify and repair clogs due to roots, grease, pipe defects, and more.

Sometimes the blockage is actually because of mop heads, T-shirts, or excessive babywipes (please do NOT flush these, despite what the packaging may claim!). Crews also find lots of cellphones, car keys, flashlights, and more.
