Council_ConnectNew Way to Connect With Your City Council

Have you been looking for an easier way to keep track of upcoming City Council Meetings? Would you like to comment on an Agenda item without having to attend the evening meeting in-person?

We can help! We just created a new Council Meeting section on our public engagement website, Let's Talk Mercer Island. We'll open comments on the day that Council Packets are distributed (usually Thursday or Friday) and close them at 5:00pm the day before the Council meeting. Then staff will send all comments as a PDF to the full Council ahead of the meeting.

The Arts Council is pleased to announce the 2019 schedule for the City's popular annual event: Mostly Music in the Park.  The six-week series of FREE concerts in Mercerdale Park begins on Thursday, July 11 at 6:00pm and features various bands and artists from around the region performing a wide variety of musical styles.

This year the City is partnering with local organizations to bring even more fun for all ages with arts activities and opening acts at 6:00pm,  before the headliners take the stage at 7:00pm! Thanks to our 2019 sponsors.
WayfindingNew Wayfinding Signage Installed
An example of the new signage; click for more info about Aubrey Davis Park
Some residents may have noticed the City's 16 bold new wayfinding signs and 4 maps in and near Town Center installed recently...

Designed in 2017 with community and Chamber of Commerce stakeholder input, and expert consultant support, these signs were funded by a $25,000 Port of Seattle Economic Development Grant, with the City's matching contribution being field crew labor.

Using uniform messaging and clear visuals, the signs are intended to direct visiting motorists to the Town Center and other key locations, as well as guide pedestrians and bicyclists from the Mountains-to-Sound ( aka I-90) regional trail to local amenities, businesses, and attractions. Many of these visitors traversing Aubrey Davis Park do not realize how close services are to the trail.

Existing signage was very limited, small, low-contrast, and in many cases had simply disappeared over the past 20-30 years.
Mercer Island Goes Green
MIFMFarmers Market Opens June 2
Click for more information
In just a few days, Mercer Island's popular Farmers Market will return for its twelfth season, at the customary location next to Mercerdale Park.  It runs from 10:00am-3:00pm on Sundays, starting June 2 through September 29, with a special extra session just before Thanksgiving on November 24.  Residents can avoid a trip off the Island, buy farm-fresh produce direct from the grower, and support local businesses all at the same time! The City is pleased to host the Farmers Market.

Last year the Market showcased 69 different vendors, donated over 2,000 pounds of produce to local organizations, and diverted 2 tons of food waste per month through composting programs.

This non-profit operation features a wide-range of regional producers, live music, kids activities, and educational booths.  Note that the 2019 Market is closed on August 4 due to Seafair.
