I am so thankful that our area dodged another hurricane, but also heartbroken for fellow Floridians on the Gulf Coast who took a big hit from Ian. If you are looking to give back, here is a list of community organizations providing aid to hurricane victims throughout the state:
AccuDock is prioritizing customers with dock damage and those in need of a new dock. Their main goal is to get those affected by Hurricane Ian operational as soon as possible. The past month was also a bit sad having to say goodbye to Stephanie Brown Lane. We had worked together for more than seven years, but she had a great new job opportunity that she decided to pursue. We will miss her but are very happy for her and wish her all the best. I am also excited to be welcoming a new staff member this month, so stay tuned for that exciting announcement.
We had a wonderful dinner on September 27 where MIAPBC recognized its business members with 10 years of membership. We also awarded member Andy Flack as Member of the Year (we pulled off another big surprise). Our Legislative Committee Chair Michael Kennedy and a representative from our lobbying firm Corcoran Partners gave an informative update on issues affecting our industry and what’s coming up in the next Florida Legislative Session. Congratulations to Greg Reynold and LagoonKeepers for their proclamation at the Palm Beach County Commission meeting on September 13! We were happy to be in attendance to support all the great work he does removing derelict vessels from our beautiful waterways.

MIAPBC announces the return of the Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade and Toy Drive along with a new presenting sponsor
The Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County (MIAPBC) is excited to announce its 28th annual Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade and toy drive, benefiting Toys for Tots and Little Smiles, will be presented this year by Compass, a national real estate company with a large presence in South Florida.

It’s entertaining, free, and showcases a local treasure. LagoonFest celebrates everything Lake Worth Lagoon, one of the most picturesque waterways in The Palm Beaches.
LagoonFest Fest takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022 along Flagler Drive in downtown West Palm Beach. Check out the exhibitor booths, see a live bird release, go on a kayak clean-up tour, do boat tours, have family fun in the kid’s zone, plus there are local beers and food. Remember, it’s free! Most of all, walk along Flagler Drive to see the stunning heart of Lake Worth Lagoon.
The Lagoon is a 20-mile-long urban estuary, where beauty is above and below the waterline. It touches 13 cities in The Palm Beaches, from North Palm Beach to West Palm Beach to Boynton Beach. Lake Worth Lagoon is where you can go kayaking, boating, fishing, birdwatching, diving, sit back at waterfront restaurants, and find inlets leading to the Atlantic Ocean.

Steppin’ Out Steps Up: Full Moon Wahoo Series Concludes
Fishing at first light calls for an early morning. Covering a variety of depths and a lot of ground makes for a long day. When the moon is full and the wahoo are biting, these are willing sacrifices anglers make to target wahoo and capitalize on the opportunity to land this elusive fish. The West Palm Beach Fishing Club (WPBFC) concluded its 6th annual Full Moon Wahoo Series in early September, as teams once again dialed in their best trolling tactics, pushing each other to compete during the final leg of the three-part series.
WPBFC member Brian Komer and team BeachKomer went into the final full moon fishing day with points already on the board. They did not catch a fish in the first leg of the series in July, but landed a 17.8 pound wahoo in the second leg in August. BeachKomer followed this up with a special day offshore during the final September full moon fishing day. While docking to weigh-in at Sailfish Marina that morning, Brian jokingly announced, “I did a thing.” He was subtly hinting toward the fact they caught three wahoo that day, one being the single largest fish of the series at 52.1 pounds. Having caught a wahoo already in the series, BeachKomer logged a series aggregate of 69.9 pounds and put some serious pressure on teams competing for the title of Series Champions.
Catching three wahoo in one day is truly impressive; catching a wahoo on all three legs of the series is equally, if not more challenging. Teams were only eligible to weigh one fish each moon. The crew with the most weight logged from all three moons would be named Series Champions. WPBFC member Christian Mignano and team Steppin’ Out logged a wahoo in both July and August. They were just one of two teams do to this. Entering the final leg with a well-earned lead over the rest of the fleet, it was up to them to seal the deal with one more fish toward their aggregate total.
In an unconventional fashion, they would hook their final wahoo trolling a simple blue & white Iland Jr. skirted over a rigged ballyhoo, fished from the rigger. Christian described this classic presentation as “old faithful.” This hungry wahoo eating this easy bait is testament to the theory behind the series, these fish bite around the full moons! Successfully landing this 16.1 pound wahoo was enough to bring their series aggregate total to 82.1 pounds, earning them the title of Series Champions! Steppin’ Out got it done catching fish off a shotgun bait, one on the planer, and lastly out of the rigger in what they’re calling a “spread slam.” A huge congrats goes out to these guys for consistently catching their targeted species each moon.
A total of 16 different teams caught a wahoo throughout the series, and more than 70 teams fished one or more legs of the series. It’s always fun to get on the water to fish and compete as a club. Youth Sailing Foundation of the Palm Beaches Announces 4th Annual Gala
Help fund sailing programs for children from the ages of 8 to 18. Sergio’s Wayfinders teaches children on the autism spectrum how to sail and Adventure Sailing introduces at-risk children in Palm Beach County to sailing and other aspects of the marine industries to provide them more opportunities for growth and development. In addition to our programs, we support learn-to-sail, racing teams, and coaching clinics.
