MIC3 Presents Webinar: Legal Perspectives
|
|
This month's webinar will focus on the legal aspect of the Compact. This is an opportunity for participants to have candid discussion and the ability to ask hard questions to better understand interstate compacts, legal parameters and authority, state obligations, and providing the same compact accommodations to other student populations. We will also address best practices, necessary resources, and feedback on what works and what doesn’t. Join us on March 30th at 2 PM EST.

On February 23rd the Commission held the first of their free monthly Compact 101 training sessions on Zoom. This session had 174 registrants, the second largest training session the Commission has held.
These sessions will be held every month and are open to anyone. The zoom session provides a brief history of the Compact and how the provisions support education transitions for military students. Attendees will receive a workbook and resource materials to assist them as they implement the compact.
Register for March's Compact 101 session here.
The Commission also traveled for in person training in February. Lindsey Dablow led three training sessions for school officials and counselors in Elizabethtown, Kentucky including Fort Knox. Kentucky Commissioner Steven Bullard was also able to join and speak at one of the sessions.
A great way to celebrate the Month of the Military Child is to schedule your Compact 101 training for April! For more information, contact Lindsey Dablow, Training and Operations Associate at ldablow@csg.org to schedule training for your state or organization today!

Military OneSource Article: The Interstate Compact Makes Changing Schools Easier for Military Children.
|
|
When moving to a new duty station means going to a new state as well as a new school for your children, rest assured that the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children is designed to make the transition smooth. The Defense Department, in collaboration with the National Center for Interstate Compacts and the Council of State Governments, developed the compact to address the educational transitions for military families. All 50 states and the District of Columbia, along with the Department of Defense Education Activity, have committed to helping your children enroll in school, register for the classes they need and graduate on time.
Through the compact, states are working together to provide a consistent set of policies that will make getting started in a new school, joining extracurricular activities and meeting graduation requirements as easy as possible for military children.
