It's PCS (Permanent Change of Station) season, and families are transitioning to new locales and kids are headed back to school! Service school liaison officers (SLO) play an integral role in supporting military families and students. Most bases and installations have a SLO, although some serve multiple locations.

Parents are encouraged to contact your SLO regarding schools, education options, or transition questions. Also, Compact Commissioners should connect and work closely with SLOs in your state - SLO are helpful in resolving cases, and are most likely working with the family or school district on the concern/issue. SLOs are "plugged in" and may be able to verify information and provide additional resources or support for families.

Japan's Camp Zama SLO, Brooke Boswell, helps families with education needs. "Contacting (me) is a great way to help parents alleviate concerns, get questions answered and allow their children to be prepared to enter their new school smoothly and easily," Boswell says. Read more
