The Way Forward: New Strategic Plan Adopted

The Commission's first 3-year strategic plan was developed in 2016 and established a foundation for the continued growth of the organization. Commission Chair, John "Don" Kaminar (AR), Executive Director Cherise Imai, and Consultant Brian Riggs of The Dialogue Shop recently unveiled the new Strategic Plan at the 2019 Annual Business Meeting in Colorado Springs, CO. Building on a strong foundation, the Executive Committee worked closely with Riggs to develop new strategic initiatives which define future goals and organizational priorities. The Interstate Compact Makes Changing Schools Easier for Military Children Article Published in Military One Source When moving to a new duty station means going to a new state as well as a new school for your kids, rest assured that the  Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children  is designed to make the transition smooth. The Department of Defense, in collaboration with the National Center for Interstate Compacts and the Council of State Governments developed the compact to address the educational transitions for military families. All 50 states have committed to helping your children enroll in school, register for the classes they need, and graduate on time. Through the compact, states are working together to provide a consistent set of policies that will make getting started in a new school, joining extracurricular activities and meeting graduation requirements as easy as possible for military children. New Resource: MIC3 Bookmarks

The MIC3 website includes an array of resources that promote the compact. In 2019, the Training and Communications and Outreach Committees worked together to create MIC3 Bookmarks, which are available for download on our website. The five designs highlight key Compact transition issues including enrollment, eligibility, placement, and graduation. Click here to download.
