New Virtual Compact 101 Training Available
Starting this month, the Commission will offer free monthly Compact 101 training sessions on Zoom. The session provides a brief history of the Compact and how the provisions support education transition for military students. Attendees will receive a workbook and resource materials to assist them as they implement the compact.

Recent trainings include three different approaches.
  • The South Carolina Compact Commissioner targeted elementary, middle, and high school counselors. Attendees asked questions that were specific to situations they encounter in working with incoming students and families.
  • California's team collaborated with military school liaisons who advertised training to their various stakeholders which included school administrators and personnel. They scheduled three training sessions for Compact 101 and two sessions for Compact 201 over several months.
  • Montana included the Compact 101 Training, organized by the School Liason, as part of the Purple Star School Award program. Schools must be trained in the Compact to qualify for the award.

While each state differed in their approach, they worked with the Commission on a training plan to meet their specific needs. The best part? The training and collaterals are provided at no-cost to states as a member of the Commission.

A great way to celebrate the Month of the Military Child is to schedule your Compact 101 training for April! For more information, contact Lindsey Dablow, Training and Operations Associate at [email protected] to schedule training for your state or organization today!

Blue Star Families on Racial Inclusion: Understanding the Experiences of Military Families of Color
The summer of 2020 sparked a national conversation on race in our country. Our friends at Blue Star Families (BSF) immediately took steps through programming, research, and conversation to uphold their vision for all military families to feel a sense of belonging.

At the 2020 MIC3 Annual Business Meeting, the session on Modern Issues Facing Military Families highlighted a blended and multi-racial military family, and the personal challenges encountered as they moved duty stations - and was well-received by attendees.

After a year of doing the work, BSF is ready to highlight what they’ve learned and unveil the results of Blue Star Families’ Social Impact Research 2021: The Diverse Experiences of Military & Veteran Families of Color. This is the first major, national survey report that recognizes the unique experiences and needs of military families of color. To learn more, register for the following:
