Research was conducted through the Alberta Perspectives program, garnering insights from business community members. Data was collected from 322 self-identified members of the business community throughout Alberta, between January 5th and February 9th, 2024.

Alberta Budget 2024 Overview - February 29th, 2024
Budget 2024 showcase a responsible plan aimed at fortifying crucial sectors such as healthcare and education. Focused on building safe and supportive communities, the budget also emphasizes prudent resource management to ensure sustainable growth

Highlights to note:
- Estimate $73.5 billion in revenues, $2.1 billion lower than the 2023-24 third quarter forecast of $75.6 billion
- Increase in operating expenses from $57.9 billion in 2023-2024 to $60.1 billion in 2024-2025
- Budget 2024 includes surpluses of $367 million, $1.4 billion and $2.6 billion over the next three years.
- Taxpayer supported debt forecast at $76.1 billion for 2023-2024, and estimated at $78.4 billion for 2024-2025
- Population growth will boost aggregate real consumer spending by 3.4 per cent, while real per capita spending will contract again
- Population is forecast to grow 3.7 per cent (a gain of almost 175,000 people) in the 2024 census year
- Conditions in Alberta’s labour market are anticipated to cool this year as labour supply expands at a rapid pace
- 950 full time equivalents being added to government departments, and 3349 full time equivalents for government agencies or operationally independent entities
- GDP is forecast to accelerate to 2.9 per cent in 2024 and 3.3 per cent in 2025, after an estimated 2.5 per cent increase in 2023
- Real GDP per capita is expected to rebound in 2025 but remain below 2019 level as economic growth lags behind population growth.
