Helping Mississippians Find Lost Life Insurance Benefits

Life insurance can provide important financial protection for families, but that protection can be difficult to access if a policy is lost or family members don't know it exists. The Mississippi Insurance Department is helping consumers find those benefits.

In 2025, nearly 2,400 Mississippians used the Life Insurance Policy Locator Tool, helping locate nearly $43 million in lost life insurance policy benefits.

If you've lost a loved one and aren't sure whether they had a life insurance policy, the NAIC Life Insurance Policy Locator Tool can help you search for a policy that may have been left behind.

It's also a good reminder to take a few minutes to organize your own insurance information. Make sure your beneficiaries know that you have a policy and know where to find the important documents and contact information.

VIDEO: When the lights go down and the fireworks go up, the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office is working behind the scenes to help keep fans safe.

Did you know? When fireworks or pyrotechnics are used on state property — including state colleges and universities — a permit is required, and our team conducts a pre-show inspection before the permit is issued. A State Fire Marshal representative must also be present during the event.

This video shows the Mississippi State Football inspection from a couple of weeks ago. But we've also inspected at USM, Ole Miss, JSU, and Alcorn.

Here’s to a great college football season — and a safe one!
