The Wildcard Search

When searching for a patient, you can search with partial information by adding an asterisk (*) anywhere within your search term. Simply enter 3 characters and then the asterisk and the MIIS will return any patient that matches those 3 characters. This can be especially handy if you are unsure of a spelling of a name or if they used a nickname. This feature can be utilized within any of the search fields.

Tips from the Helpdesk

Each MIIS user must have a unique email address associated with their account for system security. It is important to maintain an up to date email address for account management and to stay informed of various events, statuses, and alerts that occur within the MIIS. Please note that group or multi-use emails are not acceptable as they violate the terms of the MIIS user agreement.

MIIS users can update their email preferences directly through the MIIS. You can update your email address by logging into the MIIS, clicking on My Site on the top of the page, and clicking the My Contact Information button. Here you will be able to make changes to your email address. When you have completed your updates, be sure to click Save.

Add Users

If you are an Access Administrator for your site, you can add new users to access the MIIS.

Deactivating Users

If you are an Access Administrator for your site, you can deactivate users who no longer need access the MIIS.

Promoting User to Access Administrator

If you are an Access Administrator you are able to move an existing MIIS User to the Access Administrator role.

Immunization Calculation Engine & Clinical Comments

The Immunization Calculation Engine (ICE) is a clinical decision support service that the MIIS uses to assess the validity of administered doses and forecast future immunizations needed. ICE considers real-time updates to patient demographics and previous immunizations to provide a detailed forecast of immunizations needed.

When are the Immunization School surveys due?

School surveys are due January 27th, 2023. The Kindergarten, Grade 7, and Grade 11 Immunization Surveys are available only through the Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS). Schools that contain grades within K-12 in addition to childcare/preschool can now access the Childcare/Preschool Immunization and Flu Surveys from within the MIIS.

If your school is registered with the MIIS and houses a preschool you can complete the Preschool/Childcare School Survey by:

First log into the MIIS.
On the homepage select School and then Immunization Surveys.
From there, click the Start a New Immunization Survey button, read the instructions and click Next.
Then, select the school's name from the drop down that houses the Preschool/Childcare.
Once you complete that step, select the Childcare/Preschool radio button. Once you select it, the words Childcare/Preschool will turn into a hyperlink.
Click the hyperlink to be taken to the survey.

All independent childcare/preschools will be sent an email link to access the survey outside of the MIIS directly from the Assessment Unit. If you are looking for the email link for the survey from the Assessment Unit please contact them directly at immassessmentunit@mass.gov.
