James 1:22-25 (KJV)
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
James 3:5-12 (KJV)
5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
Where were the so-called FACT CHECKERS in my youth??? Where were these impeccable scholars-AKA-smarty pants-when my Mama lied to me???
BTW, why don't these modern day “all knowing FACT CHECKERS” just start publishing the truth BEFORE merely correcting us mere mortals AFTERWARD??????
My BELOVED Mother taught me from birth the old nursery rhyme:
“STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK MY BONES.....................
BUT WORDS WILL NEVER HURT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

How often does God required US-YOU AND ME- to take it “on the chin??? To
grin and bear it??????
A few weeks ago I was invited to a large outdoor graduation party. As I parked I spotted a mutual friend I had not seen in a while.
In my shocked concern as to his health I immediately said to my host, “So and so looks OLD!!!!”
My dear host friend quickly shot back, “Pastor Doug, YOU DO TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Why is that WE “SEE” the faults of others and rarely SEE ourselves??????
Luke 6:41-42 (KJV)
41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
Can YOU say OUCH and AMEN!!???
How often do WE-YES YOU ALSO- “OPEN MOUTH-INSERT FOOT!!!!”????
WE-YES THAT INCLUDES YOU-say things in zest AND receive WORDS spoken to us and OF us in “zest” that WOUND and WOUND deeply!!!!
A man MUCH wiser than me remarked:
Ecclesiastes 7:21-22 (KJV)
21 Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee:
22 For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.
TODAY, may each of us strive to use our words more wisely-WORDS CAN AND DO HURT.
Even passing remarks too often stick in our minds and guts and the minds and guts of those who receive our words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THINGS SPOKEN IN “ZEST” TOO OFTEN ARE NOT FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!
