Livestock Sale
This years sale was held on January 18, 2020 in the MJC ACE Pavilion. Both Swine and Sheep Units had the opportunity to place their own animals in the sale ultimately promoting our programs and showing what the Modesto Junior College Livestock Units has to offer. The sale was successful for both swine and sheep/goats. There were 75 pigs in the WD Sale and 8 of those were MJC pigs. The Sheep Unit held their very own pen sale that was very beneficial to their program. There were about 300 people in attendance throughout the day. The Modesto Junior College Agriculture Department was well represented through our amazing students that helped at the sales. Thank you to all who made this event successful, it could not have ran as smoothly as it did without you!

- State Holstein Convention -
This past weekend we had two students get recognized at the California Holstein Convention. Our own MJC Alumni Vincent Migliazzo was awarded the A.J. Quist Memorial Young Breeder of the Year Award. Also, our current student Aspen Silva has received a scholarship from World Wide Sires, LTD. Congratulations, we are so proud of your hard work!
- MJC Field Day -
SAVE THE DATE! - March 21st, 2020 -

The annual MJC FFA Field day is around the corner! We will be in great need of student volunteers for this event. Above is each contest that will be available at our field day along with the advisor in charge of the event. If you see a contest you are familiar with or would like to become more involved, do not hesitate to talk with the contest head. We will be heavily prepping for the contest, so the sooner you become involved the better! We are in need of student chairs for contest, as well as all around volunteers. If you are not sure what contest to sign up for, but would like to help, talk with one of your ag professors and they will point you in the right direction.

Make sure to sign up!
Ag Engineering Conference
MJC students had the honor of participating in the inaugural rally for ASABE California/ Nevada over the weekend at UC Davis. During the two days, they were there MJC students participated in lectures, Industry tours, and a design project. Students heard from a variety of speakers ranging from Biologists, USDA scientists and Industrial manufacturers for the food industry. Ambria Schneringer a sophomore had this to say about the rally “It was amazing to see the number of opportunities that ASABE has to offer me in not only my education but also my future career. I was able to meet a lot of people that I look forward to working in years to come.” During the rally elections were held, and Taylor Hunt was elected Vice President. The next year’s rally will be held at Cal Poly.

Ag Ambassador Conference
This past weekend the Modesto Junior College Ag Ambassadors attended the California State Conference in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Friday evening, the students toured the Cal Poly campus and met with the other college attending the conference. Opening ceremonies were the next morning, followed by numerous guest speakers from the ag industry. After lunch, the students attended an "industry mixer," where they were able to visit and get to know the guest speakers.

Saturday night, the conference provided dinner and a social/dance for the attending college. The following day, everyone was split into different workshops that were hosted by different colleges including Cal Poly, SLO, Fresno State, and UC Davis. The conference was wrapped up with Dr. Joe Sabol, a Cal Poly Ag Ed Professor. Overall, all the MJC students enjoyed the trip and represented our college well.
