The Poultry Science Club at MJC is a great way to get involved! This is a club where you can gain experience with processing, job opportunities, college field trips, learning about the poultry industry, and just meeting people with similar interests. Poultry science meetings are on a determined date, and the dates will be posted around the school and on social media. Make sure to join!

Truck Pulls
Our Pullin’ Pirates Club put on our 10th annual truck and tractor pull event in the MJC ACE Pavilion. This is the biggest event for our club throughout the year in terms of raising money for the spring pulling season, which will kick off at Poly Royal on April 18th.

This year our Mad Professor truck was driven by rookie driver Jacob Bamert who pulled a 122 despite having a minor driveline issue that ended his pass. This was one of our bigger events with about ninety drivers along with ten garden tractors that we had as an introduction event before our main event.

YF Meeting at Dell'Osso
The Young Farmers traveled to Dell'Osso Farms on Thursday, October 26th. The Young Farmers were able to bring 58 students and take two buses to this event! The students had tons of fun going through the haunted house, haunted hay ride, conquering the corn maze, taking pictures with pumpkins, and rounding it out with dancing and dinner. It was evident the students had a great time and we cannot wait for our next meeting.
Good Egg Breakfast
CAL Conference
On October 25 th , 2019 Modesto Junior College Agricultural Ambassador students travelled to Fresno State University in order to attend the Collegiate Agricultural Leadership Conference. MJC’s 24 Ag Ambassadors in attendance were among participants from junior colleges across California. Over a two-day period, students attended industry tours, participated in various workshops, heard from keynote speakers, and listened to a panel discussion. This event centered on advancing the necessary tools to advocate for agriculture in a responsible manner, while also providing information on career development.

Cotton Contest Success at MJC
On October 19 th in the ACE Pavilion Modesto Junior College Agriculture Department held the 9 th Annual Cotton Judging Contest. There are two contest of an A and B team. Each contest consists of judging cotton bolls, seed, lent, plants, and a practical test. It tests the skills and knowledge of contestants on the economic value and history of cotton production. Thirty different teams consisting of 103 students representing seventeen schools from as far south as Bakersfield to local schools like Waterford attended the competition. The Young Farmer Plant Science Committee were the ones who helped organize and facilitate the event. Without their help, it would not have ran so smoothly. We would like to congratulate Hanford FFA for winning the A contest and Chowchilla FFA for winning the B contest. In the A contest, Jake Dowell from Minerets FFA was the highest scoring individual. In the B contest, Caitlin Denny from Chowchilla FFA was the highest scoring individual. We wish all the teams’ good luck as they practice for state finals that will be held in November.
