Dear MJCC Members,

We have recently communicated with previously enrolled camp families about our camp plans for this summer. We also know that there may be some of you who are still making your child’s plans for the summer and probably want to know what Day Camp 2020 looks like for the MJCC. Below is information that was most recently sent out to our current camp families adjusted for people not yet registered. We are currently accepting new enrollment for the summer ONLY for MJCC Members. In addition to the program modifications listed below, we have made the decision that we will not accept out of town campers into our program this summer. The plan outlined below is based on what we currently know about the city’s re-opening process. It is important to note this is a fluid process and some of this may and will likely change in the coming days and weeks based on guidance from federal, state, and local government agencies. We will continue to communicate any updates to our camp program as they become available.

It is our goal every year to create an engaging community for our campers to build life-long bonds with friends and camp staff.  In order to continue to create this kind of space, we needed to make some difficult yet necessary changes to the camp program.  Please see below the updates to the 2020 summer camp program:

Grades K-6:
  • We are offering our Traditional Camp experience to all of our campers. Sports and Specialty camps will not be offered as an option this summer
  • We are suspending the newly created Inclusion Program until the summer of 2021.
  • Modifications to the Traditional Camp program
  • At this time, we are not able to offer AM/PM care but we will extend the camp day from 9:00-4:00 to 8:30-4:30 to try and better accommodate work schedules.
  • We will have multiple drop-off/pick-up points; locations will be assigned based on each group’s home base location:
  • Camp staff will perform a medical screening each day at drop-off
  • Temperature check to ensure it is below 99.5
  • A medical questions survey that will include questions mandated by the CDC as well as the following MJCC policy questions:
  • Has your family been on vacation less than 14 days prior to the week(s) they are signed up for camp?
  • Has your child been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
  • If either of these are answered yes, your child will not be allowed to attend the weeks they are registered for.
  • Face masks
  • All MJCC staff will be wearing face masks at all times
  • Campers are encouraged to wear masks but are not currently required
  • Pick up will be at the same locations as drop off
  • Camper Groups (Kef, Yofi, Osher, Paeel)
  • Camper group size will be smaller in order to adhere to the current recommended group gathering limits
  • Campers will stay with their designated group throughout the camp day
  • Each group will have a designated home base in the building
  • Camper groups will not combine with any other camper group
  • Frequent cleaning of hands using both hand sanitizer and soap/water
  • We will work with the MJCC’s contracted cleaning crew, maintenance staff, and camp staff to ensure heightened cleaning measures of areas used by the camp program
  • General Program Changes
  • Pool
  • We will offer a modified swim time
  • Field Trips/Extracurricular Activities
  • All off-site field trips will be suspended
  • All on-site visiting programs will be suspended
  • All overnights, late nights, and cook-outs will be suspended
  • No large group program gatherings will be planned
  • Meals and Snacks
  • Lunch
  • All lunches will need to be provided by parent/guardian
  • Ordering camper lunches from Holy Cow will be suspended
  • Campers will eat with their designated groups
  • Snack Time
  • Campers will be served an individually packaged snack each afternoon to eat with their designated group.
  • Staff will ensure proper handling of all snacks given out
Grades 7-10
  • Mah Ani (7th and 8th grade)
  • We are planning a modified, on-site program for this age group that will have limited spots available
  • Group size, programming, and schedule modifications will follow the above procedures of Traditional Camp.
  • Mah Ani, which is Hebrew for, “Who Am I?” is a camp program for kids entering grades 7 and 8. In this introspective program, campers will delve into activities where they learn more about themselves, their communities, and come up with ways to serve. This group of campers will come away with a better understanding of who they are, of the communities they live in, and how they can use their own strengths to be of service to our world, all while connecting with peers and having fun! CIT Program (9th and 10th grade)
  • CIT program is suspended until the summer of 2021

At this time, we will begin processing new registrations next week. Anyone registering for camp this summer will need to pay in full at the time of registration. We do have limited spaces remaining in our camp program.

We appreciate your patience and we hope the information that we have provided you will lead you to make the decision to be part of MJCC camp this summer. While there will continue to be some changes, you can be certain that your children will have a fun and meaningful summer. We are looking forward to spending the summer with you and your family. Please reach out to  daycamp@jccmemphis.org  with any questions or concerns.

Thanks,
The MJCC Camp Team
