AIRFIELD UPDATE NEWSLETTER

May 2026

Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is committed to being a responsible member of the community and keeping you informed on airfield projects, special events, and other news that may impact the standard flow of air traffic. Check out our latest updates below.

UPCOMING PROJECTS & RUNWAY IMPACTS

During the spring and summer, MKE will complete several projects that require temporary runway closures. These efforts are aligned with the Airport's Master Plan and are designed to support long-term growth while continuing to meet the needs of our passengers and community.

Runway Closure: A new storm sewer will be installed at the intersection of Runways 01L/19R and 07R/25L. Runway 01L/19R (red line in the image below) will be closed for approximately two months beginning in May. During this period, some increase in aircraft noise may be noticeable to the east and west of the airport.

Taxiway F Rehabilitation: Taxiway F, located in the northeast corner of the airfield, will undergo rehabilitation in June. As part of this work, Runway 7L/25R (blue line in the image below) will be closed for approximately 11 days. This runway primarily serves smaller propeller aircraft and business jets, so minimal impact to overall aircraft noise is expected.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Aviation in Wisconsin truly comes alive as the weather warms up. From airshows to community fly-ins, summer is the perfect time to experience the excitement of flight. Here are a few upcoming aviation events around MKE:

June 6th

Mark you calendars for Timmerman Airport's 9th Annual Flour Drop Contest on Saturday, June 6th at 10:00AM. Pilot and passenger duos will compete to see who can drop a bag of flour closest to a bullseye on the airfield. Participation is free and lunch will be provided for all attendees. Follow Milwaukee's Timmerman Airport Facebook page for event updates.

July 25th - July 26th

The exhilarating Waterstone Bank Air & Water Show returns to McKinley Park and Bradford Beach. Community members around MKE and in the greater Milwaukee area should expect increased aircraft noise during the week of the event. Please note that the airport does not control flight routes for any aircraft, including those that partake in the airshow.

July 20st - July 26th

The annual EAA AirVenture returns to Oshkosh. While this event does not typically result in noise impacts near MKE, there may be additional aircraft traffic over southeastern Wisconsin as aircraft arrive and depart Oshkosh.

HAVE A NOISE CONCERN?

If you have questions or would like to report a noise concern, please contact the MKE Noise Office via one of the following methods:

As a public use airport, MKE does not have the legal authority to prevent or restrict any aircraft from operating at the airport, nor can it control flight routes. Congress has provided the Federal Aviation Administration with exclusive authority to regulate aviation safety, the efficiency of the navigable airspace, and air traffic control.

Residential Sound Insulation Guide

MKE has developed a new Residential Sound Insulation Guide. This resource is designed for residents who are interested in learning more about ways to reduce aircraft noise within their homes. Residents looking for information on potential sound insulation solutions are encouraged to review the guide.
