Thank you for reading the
MKE Airfield Update! This newsletter is intended to keep
you up-to-date on airfield construction projects, regular maintenance, and
special events that could impact the standard flow of arriving or
departing air traffic.
Here is an update of some major airfield construction projects that are taking place this fall, along with regular airfield maintenance:
- The main east-west runway (7R/25L), used by commercial airlines, will be closed for pavement rehabilitation from mid-September through mid-October which means the north-south runway will be the primary commercial runway in use. This could result in a change in aircraft overflight activity in surrounding neighborhoods.
- There will be short-term intermittent closures of both runways at Timmerman Airport, the General Aviation reliever airport located on Milwaukee's northwest side, beginning in mid-September and lasting a couple of weeks.
MKE is in the middle of a two-year project to update the Airport Master Plan that will guide future development of the Airport. This plan will define a roadmap for incremental development to meet future aviation demand and other airport needs. Visit the MKE Master Plan website!
Stars & Stripes Honor Flights
at MKE are currently scheduled for September 28, October 19 and November 9. It's a festive atmosphere in the terminal as family and friends welcome veterans home after visiting war memorials in Washington, DC. We thank these veterans for putting their lives on the line to defend our freedom.
