Do You Accept Credit Cards as Payment on In-House Accounts?

A national supplier faced a common dilemma: many business customers were using credit cards to pay their in-house account balances. Though this practice is widespread, it presents suppliers with two problems. First, it’s against card association rules to use a credit card to pay a terms-based account, which could result in stiff financial penalties though it’s rarely enforced. Second and more impactful, it’s expensive. Suppliers are effectively paying twice for each transaction: they’re paying for the cost of an in-house B2B credit program plus the credit card processing fee of about 2-4%, even higher for online transactions. It's Time You Outsourced Your 401(k)

With building concern over fiduciary risk, the argument for outsourcing your 401(k) plan to the Mid-America Lumbermens Multi-Employer Plan (MEP) keeps getting stronger.

W. Scott Simon referred to joining a Multiple Employer Plan as, “…the platinum standard of delegation of fiduciary responsibility (and liability) by a plan sponsor.” It has been suggested that multiple employer plans offer the most significant mitigation of fiduciary risk available today.*

  • Pooled MLA-MEP retirement plan resources greatly reduce expenses incurred by adopting employers. (Tax savings alone may be greater than plan expense.)
  • Customizable plan features.
  • Single point-of-service for broker, advisory, and TPA functions.
  • Provides a diverse collection of quality investment options.
  • One-on-one investment advisor access.
  • Roth deferral option eliminates income qualification restrictions.

If your business has only a few employees, you may think you’re too small or it’s too expensive to offer a complete 401(K) retirement savings plan. Not so! Companies with as few as two employees can participate in the MLA 401(k) retirement savings plan.

Six Considerations for Choosing an LTL Freight Carrier

The 25 largest U.S. less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers collectively brought in $34 billion in revenue in 2017. That is a staggering number and a 7.8% increase over the previous year. When the numbers are in for 2018, don’t be surprised to see another healthy rise. As the largest LTL carriers continue to command more of the overall marketplace, shippers must be resourceful when looking to source LTL freight services so as to not get squeezed on price due to the number of market players. Shippers should take the following six factors into consideration when finding the most efficient LTL freight services. Read more .

Planning Tool Helps Guide Disaster Preparation and Recovery
The skies are clear. The river is at its normal level. Authorities are reporting a low risk of wildfire. Fault lines have been quiet. It’s tempting to operate your business as if these will always be the case. But what will you do when disaster strikes? Ask any business owner who has been through a disaster — thorough preparation makes all the difference.

When you experience a catastrophe, the trauma and stress make it difficult, if not impossible, to think clearly enough to begin setting things right. And unless you’ve collected all the documents and information you need for operational continuity, you’ll have a hard time getting things moving again. Read more .
