MLC Day 2023 is Wednesday, May 3!
This day is set aside for our campus family to connect with our congregations, elementary schools, high schools, friends, families, and donors. This annual celebration is an opportunity for our campus and our friends to do three things:
-
Share the importance of ministerial education at MLC—especially since we have such a great need for pastors, staff ministers, and teachers.
-
Encourage elementary school students, high school students, and second-career adults to consider preparing for the public ministry at MLC.
-
Thank our donors for their support, and ask everyone celebrating with us to help MLC students financially through our Congregational Partner Grant Program.
Please join us in celebrating the blessings God has granted to our ministry at Martin Luther College! Here are some suggestions:
- Use the first week in May to talk about ministerial education in your Sunday schools, Bible classes, sermons, Lutheran elementary schools, and high schools. We encourage you to use our Project Elijah classroom activities for grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8.
- Send photos, videos, prayers, and messages of encouragement to the MLC Day Share page.
- Consider contributing to the MLC Congregational Partner Grant Program. A generous donor is matching all donations up to $50,000 to help us reach our $100,000 goal. You can find out more on our MLC Day Give page.
- Follow our Martin Luther College Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube pages through the month of April to view messages from our student body and learn about classroom video competitions!

Many students travel over spring break, but not just for fun—for ministry!
MLC's Daylight program provides opportunities for students to serve in WELS mission fields, where they learn about serving the church and grow their ministry skills. This spring, students traveled to Texas, Iowa, Georgia, New Mexico, Arizona, and even Colombia.
One team served at Redeemer-Tucson AZ. They canvassed the community, helped at the local WELS grade school, and enjoyed the Sabino Canyon and Sonoran Desert Museum.
MLC students not only give support to WELS missions, but they also gain invaluable ministry experience. Austin Haley (St. John-Waterloo WI) appreciated getting a taste of a mission field. “For the short time we were there, we got to talk to many people who didn’t know Christ," he says. “It gave me experience talking to people who have completely different backgrounds than me."

The MLC College Choir wrapped up their 2023 spring tour under the theme “Christ Is All in All.”
After sharing their talents in California, the choir shared them once again with the campus family and community on March 19 in the Homecoming Concert.
The choir’s culminating performance featured several soloists and instrumentalists within the beautiful selection of pieces by the ensemble. The concert also included a special performance of “Draw Near to Christ” that included children from St. Paul LES-New Ulm MN.

The MLC men and women picked up their first wins of the 2023 tennis season with 7-2 and 9-0 wins over Crown.
The men won two of their three doubles matches. The Knights received great individual performances in their singles matches as well.
The women opened up conference play in dominating fashion, winning their three doubles matches by the score of 8-2, 8-1, 8-0.
Head Coach Paul Koelpin said, “I was pleased for the players that they were able to raise their level despite the practice challenges we’ve experienced. It was good to see some success. They represented themselves well.”

New Face on Campus: Adam Pavelchik
|
|
Professor Adam Pavelchik (education) is a native of Milwaukee whose ministry has led him across the country. Over the past 20 years, Professor Pavelchik has worked in a variety of schools in very different capacities. “I consider myself a constant learner,” he says. “I love to tackle new projects and concepts whenever I am able.”
As a classroom teacher, Professor Pavelchik has served in both Lutheran and public school classrooms, working with diverse students from many different backgrounds, languages, and cultures.
He was assigned to Wisconsin Lutheran School-Racine WI as a second grade teacher and assistant principal after completing his BS in Elementary Education at MLC. Later, he moved into other roles, such as a language acquisition program educator in the Kenosha Unified School District, continuing education adjunct faculty at Concordia University Wisconsin, and principal at Peace-Kissimmee FL and Mount Olive-Mankato MN.
“As an administrator, I've been privileged to serve with and support many talented teachers and staff members from early childhood through the college level,” says Professor Pavelchik. “Looking back, I can see how each of my experiences were part of God's plan to prepare me for the next step.”
At MLC, Professor Pavelchik serves as the director of Field Experiences. He also teaches two courses: Human Growth and Development and Adolescent Psychology. Each of his roles allows him to share his experiences with students.
“I love being able to freely discuss aspects of ministry with the next generation of called workers,” he says. “We all have different talents, gifts, abilities, and experiences, and part of preparing for the public ministry is examining how we complement one another in our individual roles.”

A new semester means a new opportunity to study abroad, and junior Morgan Behnke (Trinity-Brillion WI) is doing just that—in Greece!
Morgan is a student at the American College of Greece in Athens, the oldest and largest US-accredited college in Europe. She’s now halfway through her experience, and her blog posts share details about her education, travel, and cultural experiences.
While Morgan was nervous at the beginning, she keeps God’s promise to be with her at the forefront of her mind as she ventures into new experiences.
“I feel incredibly blessed and satisfied with how rich and meaningful my study abroad experience has been,” she says. “I am growing through challenges, expanding my perspectives, and forming relationships and connections with many complex and interesting people.”
