Churchwide Lent/Easter Bible study of Luke and Acts
Episcopalians around the world will join in a study of the Gospel of Luke during Lent and the Acts of the Apostles (the sequel to Luke) during Easter.
The Good Book Club is an invitation to all Episcopalians to join in reading the Gospel of Luke and Acts during Lent-Easter 2018. Episcopalians will start reading Luke on Sunday, February 11 and read a section of Luke's Gospel every day through the season of Lent. The entire season of Easter will be devoted to daily readings from Acts.
The Good Book Club is free. You can
download the reading list and read Luke and Acts for no charge. In addition, subscribers to
Forward Day by Day
can easily follow along, with Luke and Acts guiding the reflections during Lent-Easter 2018.Several resources created for this project will be free, while others will have a cost. You'll pay only for the resources you wish to purchase. The Good Book Club is sponsored by
Forward Movement,
RenewalWorks, Episcopal Church Women, the office of Latino ministries of the Episcopal Church and
many others.
Our own bishop has written reflections on Luke-Acts which you might also find helpful alongside the Good Book Club resources. You can order Bishop Knisely's book
here.

Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John:
a Lent prayer experience
Have you ever wished to deepen your relationship with God? To experience a warm friendship with God? Maybe even fall in love with God -- again -- or for the very first time?
With a beautiful
prayer journal,
facilitation guidance for small groups (and more) from the Center for the Ministry of Teaching at Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS), and videos from the monks of the Society of St. John the Evangelist (SSJE),
Meeting Jesus is a six-week journey and reflection on the Gospel According to John, starting Lent 2018.
The Gospel of John and the First Letter of John describe how God, out of deep love, sends Jesus into the world to live among us. By learning from Jesus and his teachings about the God he calls 'Father,' discover God as One who longs for deep intimacy with each of us.
Ministry leaders who wish to organize one or more small groups to engage the study together can sign up for resources and videos
here.

AROUND THE DIOCESE / WIDER COMMUNITY |
Cathedral growing as base for ministry
The Cathedral of St. John has expanded its capacity to serve as a ministry base for several groups. The
Center for Reconciliation and the staff of Rhode Island for Community and Justice (
www.RICJ.org) are moving in the office wing.
RICJ is an organization that shares the CFR's mission of racial reconciliation and offers programs for teens, which expands the age range beyond what CFR does. These two organizations join the
Church Beyond the Walls, which has been using the office wing as its home base for the past couple of years. They will be moving into a renovated kitchen for more appropriate meal preparation space.
Together these three organizations will bring new life to the Cathedral. Although there will not be a typical Sunday morning congregation, the diocese is launching a new young adult ministries program this spring that will be based at the Cathedral and we hope will have programs and worship at what are likely to be atypical hours for church services!
An Open House to welcome RICJ and celebrate this new life is scheduled for January 22--watch for details.
"It isn't pretty, but it is clean, safe and useable," said Bishop Knisely at a recent Clergy Day event held in the Cathedral parish hall. That event led to a group of clergy deciding to offer Compline once a month, starting in March.
Meanwhile, the CFR is sponsoring programs both in the main church and in the parish hall, along with exhibits on loan from Brown University's Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice and from the Little Compton Historical Society.
Slowly but surely, the Cathedral is coming back to life and engaging the Rhode Island community in a wide range of programs. Watch for more announcements of programs you can join.
Volunteers willing to help with painting, cleaning, making repairs, program support, etc., should contact the Rev. Linda L. Grenz, canon to the ordinary, at
Linda@episcopalri.org. The Cathedral Chapter welcomes volunteers and contributions to help get our Cathedral serving our Rhode Island community again.
