The California Coastal Cleanup - You Are Bigger Than You Think!

Time to Come Clean-9/23-9 am to Noon

Three hours is all that we're asking, but what a huge difference you can make!

Pitch in, join the fun, and help with the important work of the MLT cleanup 2023. Check out the link below or visit our Facebook and Instagram postings. There are more than a dozen places to volunteer. Are you busy on the 23rd? Not to worry! Other dates are available, as are inland locations.

MLT is proud to be the coordinator for all of Mendocino County’s CCD sites and activities. We salute the many, many local businesses and organizations that have teamed up to make this important event a success.

MLT at Work

A New Park for Fort Bragg

The City of Fort Bragg is working with MLT, and while planning is still in its formative stages, the outlook for a new park is promising. The city is deciding where to place water-storage reservoirs on 582 acres it acquired from the recreation district, and MLT is working on the conservation and recreation planning process.

The site is located on Highway 20 near Summers Lane. While much planning remains to be done, along with restoration work, removing old dump sites and controlling illegal off-highway vehicle access, the park will eventually include sanctuary areas for the property’s most sensitive and threatened wildlife and hiking trails. Some of the trails will likely be raised onto boardwalks to reduce impact. Finally, the park will include a large area that is already very damaged by past human activity for parking, picnicking, and community events.

We are looking forward to sharing more about this up-and-coming new community resource over the next year.

Stewardship of Conservation

Easements and Trails

With the support of our many donors and volunteers, we are out doing the important business of conservation every day. We thank our teams, volunteers, staff, and interns who make this happen. Recent work includes:

  • Completing the annual inspection reports for fee-owned properties.
  • Monitoring of conservation easements at Big River, Weiss, Galbreath/Johnson, and Redwood Meadows.
  • Conducting monthly volunteer days at Hare Creek and Navarro Point.
  • Hosting an intertidal bioblitz at Belinda Point with Reef Check and Latino Outdoors.
  • Nearing completion of The Conservation Fund’s Big River baseline documentation report.
  • Updating the baseline documentation report for the Edison conservation easement.
  • Adding new materials to the MLT kiosk in Big River Park.

Six Exciting Projects!

A Sunset Soirée

Saturday, October 21, 2023

Here's your chance to join those who are stepping up and taking the lead to back six exciting projects.

The Mendocino Land Trust has more than 45 years of success in working to expand coastal access, conserve land, and protect habitats. But we're not resting on our laurels. There's still much to be done, and we invite you to join us with our "what comes next" fundraiser, the Sunset Soirée.

MLT's premier event kicks off our ambitious plan to develop six new public access sites in Mendocino County in the next few years.

And what an event it is!

The Sunset Soiree offers live Latin-style jazz by the Mendonesians, Venezuela-inspired food by the chefs at Pilón Kitchen, and a silent auction. Tickets are $125 each and can be purchased at this link.

If you are interested in donating to the silent auction, you can do so at this link.

We hope you’ll join us in our efforts to launch these new undertakings! Questions? Call (707) 962-0470 or email info@mendocinolandtrust.org.
