DECEMBER 5, 2018
Hello MLWS Families!

With the quiet beauty and reverent mood of the Advent Spiral still reverberating within us, we move into the final preparations for the Winter Faire, which takes place this coming Sunday. We hope you will enjoy this issue of our biweekly newsletter, which includes a Parent Council update, highlights activities of various classes and other school-related topics, offers Classified listings, and provides information about upcoming events in the MLWS community.

Parent Council is not holding monthly meetings during the 2018-19 school year. Instead, we will aim to work on our priority projects in small working groups, which will meet as necessary to advance their efforts. These projects include the Enchanted Walk, Faculty Nourishment, a weekly Craft Circle, Food Drives at Music Shares, a Welcome Committee for new families, and this newsletter. If you are interested in being involved in one of the working groups, or if you have an idea for another initiative you would like to work on through Parent Council, please send an email to Please consider getting involved and offering some of your time to one of our projects. Many hands make light work!

Third Grade CLOTHING SALE Thank You!

Dear Community Members:

A big thank you for all of your support in making our clothing sale a success. At first, we thought it sounded like a lot of work, but it ended up being a lot of fun! Such a great tradition, and we look forward to being on the other end of it next year. We were able to donate the items that were left at the end of the sale to Family of Woodstock, and it felt great to keep the momentum going by passing the unsold items on to such a great organization. Again, many thanks for your donations, your good energy, and for being such great shoppers! Now we're all set for our Farm trip!

Warm regards,
Stephanie Young on behalf of the MLWS Third Grade

Did You Know...
QUESTION: Can you explain what Three Streams is?
ANSWER: The Three Streams of Student Support is an extensive program of means and methods to address and track the needs of children who are on the periphery of the social/academic/behavioral core of Mountain Laurel students. This program was created by Kim John Payne M.ED to assist teachers and staff by providing tools for the following: the Care and Therapeutic Stream, the Restorative Discipline and Guidance Stream, and the Social Inclusion Stream. The Three Streams Group at Mountain Laurel was formed during the summer of 2016 and has met every week during the 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and current school years to familiarize itself with and implement the tools and processes of the Three Streams program. As we continue to develop this approach to student care in our school, we look forward to serving the needs of the children to the best of our abilities. The Group can be contacted directly via email at
