 NEWS FROM THE PARENT COUNCIL
JANUARY 30, 2019
Hello MLWS Families!

We hope you are navigating the cold temperatures and winter weather with ease and a sense of adventure. Winter is certainly upon us, complete with ice skating, skiing and, inevitably, school delays and closings! Parent Council is pleased to share this issue of the newsletter with the community, which includes a Parent Council update, highlights activities of various classes and other school-related topics, offers Classified listings, and provides information about upcoming events in the MLWS community.
PARENT COUNCIL UPDATE

Parent Council is not holding monthly meetings during the 2018-19 school year. Instead, we will aim to work on our priority projects in small working groups, which will meet as necessary to advance their efforts. These projects include the Enchanted Walk, Faculty Nourishment, Food Drives at Music Shares, a Welcome Committee for new families, and this newsletter. If you are interested in being involved in one of the working groups, or if you have an idea for another initiative you would like to work on through Parent Council, please send an email to parentcouncil@mountainlaurel.org. Please consider getting involved and offering some of your time to one of our projects. Many hands make light work!

A Peek Into the Classroom
From Ms. Lawson

The First Grade is enjoying the cold winter! We are having lots of fun on our ice skating trips and look forward to many more. We are exploring all four mathematical processes through stories, games and movement.
The children excitedly received their pentatonic flutes, introduced with a special story about the gifts of the wind, birds and trees. They are now learning to play their flutes, which has opened up a whole new facet of their first grade experience.
From Mr. Neel

The Fifth Grade is taking a fantasy road trip! They will be driving across North America, putting at least one toe in the Pacific Ocean, and driving back a different route. Reports on their road trip experience will be presented at a morning assembly coming soon. Stay tuned…
