Greetings!
This week we spoke with Michael Johnson at
417fox.com after admiring his phenomenal DIY restoration of a 1991 Ford Mustang LX Hatchback with Cervinis Cobra Body Kit. Now painted 5-alarm Vermilion Red, the car
is a 302 5-speed with GT-40 heads, tubular intake, and an F Cam, and has been lowered 1.5 in. It also features MM subframe connectors. Why? Pretty much because his wife made him.
Turns out those subframes probably saved Michael and his two young daughters while they were out enjoying his last Fox body restoration. "To this day, I credit those connectors with preventing the car from accordioning when a car suddenly pulled out right in front of us," he recounts. Cruising along at 65 on the highway, Michael wasn't able to avoid the other car and t-boned it, totaling his ride only 3 weeks after he'd completed the restoration. But he and his girls were OK, most importantly.
"When I went to restore the '91, my wife was adamant that I use MM subframes again," he laughs. "No argument from me, of course. I just feel better and safer with those on board. Plus the performance upgrade is awesome!"
