I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday break!

Due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Boone county, we will no longer have our teacher’s recital and we will have our Winter Meeting via Zoom on Sunday, January 30^th at 3 P.M. We are hoping to be able to keep Musicathon in person, but that is a question mark for now.

Dear teachers,

It's the time of year when our high school juniors and seniors begin thinking about their college plans and I wanted to reach out to you to encourage them to include music and piano study at William Jewell College as a part of that.

We have a thriving music department here with over 40 music majors and minors and many scholarship and playing opportunities available to pianists including accompanying private lessons, taking an accompaniment class, playing for choir, and playing in jazz band.

Audition dates for William Jewell are:

Feb 5, 2022

Feb 19, 2022

Auditionees are encouraged to perform two contrasting style pieces for their audition and demonstrate some technique in the form of scales and chords. They will be asked to sight read a short selection as well.

Some more good news: piano scholarships are not contingent upon music as their major, so please encourage any of your students who are making college plans to include William Jewell in them.

I am e-mailing to share with you more information about our piano program at College of the Ozarks. High school juniors and seniors are welcome to contact me for an in-person tour of our department and facilities.    

In August 2021 we acquired a newly rebuilt Steinway D from Park University ICM which is now housed in our beautiful Gittinger Recital Hall. We also have five practice rooms with baby grand pianos dedicated to piano majors; these practice rooms include Steinway, Boston, Yamaha, and Kawai pianos.   

Our piano program includes weekly studio classes, accompanying opportunities, teaching opportunities, and experiences playing for worship services as well as for the Keeter Center Restaurant. Every year piano students also participate in off-campus competitions.  

The work program at CofO provides students with the opportunity to work 15 hours a week to pay for their tuition, and our work station in the music department allows students to build experience for their future vocations.  We have a piano major and piano minor, and many of our students choose to double major.  

This fall our MTNA collegiate chapter had a proposal accepted for presentation at the National MTNA Convention in Minneapolis, MN in March 2022.  This coming semester we will have guest artists and piano masterclasses given by nationally known faculty from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL as well as from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.   

For high school seniors who are interested in applying for the Fall 2022, the priority consideration deadline is Dec. 31, 2021. However, College of the Ozarks is accepting applications all the way through January 2022.

Military Science | College With Bobcat GOLD Program & Scholarships - College of the Ozarks

The Edith Gittinger Music Center was completed in August 2003 and offers students some of the finest music facilities in the state. It houses acoustically-engineered practice rooms, audio/visually equipped classrooms, a piano lab, electronic music studio, dedicated choral and instrumental rehearsal rooms, and the 150 seat Newman Recital Hall with state-of-the-art acoustics and recording equipment.
